How to Monetize Your Web Traffic.. Even if They Don't Buy

You bust your ass daily driving visitors to your web site. If you have a better than average sales page, you may convert 5% of them into customers, you've done pretty well for yourself. But what about those other 95% of your visitors? Wouldn't you like to earn something from them, too... even if it was just a few pennies?

There are numerous ways to capitalize on this web traffic. Here are a few:

Sign up for an ad service like Adsense or Ad Brite. I personally prefer Ad-brite because I can use interstitial ads that pay me whether they are clicked or not. It also seems that I get more banner ads (that pay me for number of views, rather than clicks) than I get with Adsense. There are other services out there. Find the one that fits your situation the best and start earning some extra cash with very little effort.

You can also sell ad space on your website. You can find banner rotators that are open-source and free to use. There are other solutions that are easier to use and have billing built in that you can find fairly cheap if you look around.

Place ads on your blog. If you utilize a blog on your site (and you really should!), be sure and have a link to it from the page you are driving traffic to. People may not buy the product but they will be interested in the free information on your blog. If you have ads in place on your blog, then you earn from those just looking for a freebie. Be sure and have links back to your sales and home pages from your blog as well. If you give the visitors useful information for free, some of them will buy your initial product, as well.

Start an affiliate program. We've already established that most of your visitors will not buy from you, but a good number of them will sell for you. Offer a small related report for free as an incentive for them to join up. Many of them will later become customers themselves if they have good success in selling your product(s).

Team up with another website. Find someone in the same target market, but not a competing product, and swap links. Join their affiliate program and have them join yours, so that you both can earn from each others traffic.

Make a membership area. Take all of your information and put it into one place that people can access for a fee. You can add to the site as you develop new ideas to keep them coming back. A few well-placed ads inside the area will add to the income coming from the membership fees.

Lastly, do not let your monetizing get out of hand. Limit the number of pop-up and interstitial ads your visitors are exposed to. Too many things distracting them from your main purpose (getting them to buy your product) will drive them away.

So, now you see how to easily add income from your existing traffic. Take a couple of hours and implement a couple of these ideas and see if you can't add a few bucks each day to your bottom line.
